Jay Cottage, UK

With the goal to go off-the-grid and build according the passive house standard, the house was build with a high level of air tightness and the optimum MVHR was chosen.

The standard MVHR unit is like an octopus and has pipes and ducts running through the entire house bringing fresh air in and venting stale air out. As the stale air is pushed by the unit to the outside atmosphere it exchanges its heat to the cold fresh air coming in which is then circulated to the rooms in the house. But there is a lot of work in installing these systems and that they fly against the principles of Passive House as they consume a lot of energy to work, mainly because of the duct work. So the favourable alternative was chosen which is Fresh R units, that meets Passive House performance and comfort standards for ventilation.
